Pete Doherty plans anti-drug implant
To help him get clean
Pete Doherty yesterday (July 13) told a court he is to have an implant fitted to help him kick drugs.
Doherty, who represented himself in court, told the court that the implant would suppress his appetite for drugs.
The Babyshambles singer was at the Thames Magistrates’ Court in east London as part of the review of the treatment programme handed to him over drug possession charges.
Judge Jane McIvor said that doctors had reported they were pleased with his progress, even though he had not provided a negative drug test.
“You are going in the right direction,” she said. “It’s not easy, especially in your circumstances. I appreciate that entirely.”
She recommended that his drug testing should be reduced from twice to once a week, and called for another review for September, BBC News reports.
As previously reported by NME.COM, in February of this year Doherty told Channel 4 News that he was “going to get an anti-heroin implant”.
He recently told Jonathan Ross on BBC1 that he had recently been fitted with such an implant during a rehab session in Portugal, but it had been damaged on his return to the UK.
