Carl Barat and The Streets shine at Get Loaded In The Park

Despite being a last-minute addition to yesterday’s (August 26) Get Loaded In The Park line-up, Pete Doherty snubbed the south London all-dayer.

Programmes and running orders were even altered to announce that the Babyshambles star would be playing an acoustic solo performance in the Xfm tent at 1:30pm but Doherty was nowhere to be seen.

Organisers later told NME.COM that the non-appearence was not the singer's fault by an attempt to accommodate the singer if he had been free.

Instead performances from Dizzee Rascal, MIA, and Art Brut all helped Get Loaded all shined but it was Doherty’s old partner in crime, Carl Barat, who stole the show.

Dirty Pretty Things warmed up the main stage before the day’s headliners, The Streets, for the biggest crowd of the event. Playing the best bits of their ‘Waterloo To Anywhere’ album, Barat and co. ripped through an hourlong set that included ‘Deadwood’ and ‘You Fucking Love It’.

Barat was his usual focussed self, speaking just once to announce, “This is our last song. And this is our last gig of the year in England,” before the band launched into ‘Bang Bang’.

Mike Skinner then took to the stage to close this year’s festival but spent the most part of his greatest hits set fighting a losing battle against poor sound quality.

The reason for Doherty’s failure to appear was unclear.
