Pete Doherty facing prison tomorrow?

As the Babyshambles man learns his fate, we chart his court dramas

Pete Doherty is finally set to learn his fate tomorrow (September 4) after pleading guilty to drug charges in the summer.

The Babyshambles frontman has had a turbulent few months which has already seen him make several appearances at West London Magistrate’s Court, where judges will decide his future tomorrow.

Firstly, the singer pleaded guilty to possessing Class A drugs after being stopped by police in Kensington High Street back on May 5.

Having admitted the charges, on that occasion (August 7) the judge decided to postpone his sentencing for a month.

Doherty was told he would be given a community or prison sentence, which would depend on his behaviour over August, and he was advised he would be sentenced on September 4.

Unfortunately for Doherty he was forced to make an unexpected return to the Hammersmith court on August 27.

Following Babyshambles' set at V Festival in Chelmsford, the singer was arrested again and police brought the singer to West London Magistrates Court, charging him with breaking his bail conditions.

However Doherty was lucky as the officers failed to delivery him to the magistrates within 24 hours of his arrest he was freed on a technicality.

A seperate drugs arrest arising from that occasion will not be dealt with until October 31, when Doherty must reappear at Bethnal Green police station.

So tomorrow he finally learns his fate for his arrest in May - prison or the community service.

NME.COM will be bringing you full coverage live from court so make sure you tune in tomorrow for the latest news.

In the meantime have your say on whether Doherty will face prison or not using the My NME comments below.

We'll post the best up throughout the day so keep checking.

The man needs to go to prison. I am a huge fan of his music (user name makes this obvious) but he needs serious help. In past and present, spells of rehab have done little for him except possibly to ever so slightly better his reputation. Just when everyone thinks Pete Doherty has turned over a new leaf, he gets arrested the following day or week. In order to seriously address his problem he will have to hit serious levels of depravation to realise what he is doing to himself. Throughout his drug addled history it seems that he is made of iron and that everything bounces off of him, be it court orders, arrests or drugs. He is surrounded by people that encourage his behaviour and this is another problem. His ticket out of the lifestyle he is leading WAS Miss Kate Moss, and now that he has lost her, who does he have to behave for? He won't kick drugs for his fans, his fiancee or flesh and blood, he needs to do it for himself. I grew tired of being shocked and surprised at his arrests many moons ago, having attended several gigs of his that have been cancelled, waiting hours in the pouring rain or, just as I was about to head out, a bulletin on this website appears. The boy makes some fine music, but he needs to sort his life out. Living in London does him no favours either, but he doesn't seem to realise this. I have already booked tickets for the December tour, but Pete needs to go to jail. He has got into the routine of constantly getting away scot free with every crime he commits and it needs to stop. Some people may think that this is funny, I myself see it as absolutely ridiculous.

I reckon he should get sent down to teach him a bit of a lesson and hopefully it will get him off drugs. As much as i love Baby Shambles etc and can't wait for the new album i want him to sort himself out for good x

I LOVE Pete, but I think he needs to sort himself out a bit... but sometimes I wonder, is this where he gets his charm from??

Maybe prison will be good for him in the long run.

that's one way of looking at it (responding to Good_ship_Albion) and i have tickets for the winter too, and i'm planning to fly down all the way from india to watch him, but i'm not so sure going to prison's the answer...and he seems fairly headstrong, like as you said if he wanted to do it he'd do it for himself, either way, i think it's him all the way...prison or not...

I amn't sure to be honest. In once sense he might benefit from it, but it didn't stop him last time. But on the other side, what is said to be, his best material in ages is due for release & he has an arena tour at the end of the year.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

He's a brilliant musician right up until he's behind bars. For the sake of those of us with ears, I hope the judge takes into consideration 'Pentonville' as an example of what imprisoning Doherty could unleash upon the musical community...

Its bloody boring.

Send him down, a few months in Jail might shock him into sorting himself out.
