Pete Doherty and Babyshambles play Wembley Arena

Band play biggest headline date yet

Babyshambles played a show at London's Wembley Arena last night (November 27) - their biggest headline show to date.

The venue was around two thirds full, with many seated sections towards the back of the arena covered up and out of use.

Following support slots from Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong and Dizzee Rascal, frontman Pete Doherty, wearing a dark top, a trilby hat and a mass of rosary beads and necklaces, led his band out and opened with 'Carry On Up The Morning'.

The set continued with very little between-song banter from Doherty or his bandmates.

Doherty only paused to say “hello there” after second song 'Delivery'. However, during ‘Fuck Forever’ he led the crowd through an interlude rendition of the happy birthday song, which he dedicated to his younger sister Emily, who he said turned 21 at midnight.

The set, comprised mainly of numbers from the band’s latest album, ‘Shotter’s Nation’, was tight and professional. All the band looked extremely sober and focused throughout.

Doherty looked on the ball and healthy, and looked to have slimmed down since pictures of him post rehab were published recently.

With the venue around two thirds full, fans responded to favourites such as ‘Albion’ and ‘There She Goes (A Little Heartbreak)' .

Doherty also played ‘Music When The Lights Go Out’ - a song by his former band The Libertines - solo on electric guitar.

After playing a rapturously-received rendition of 'Fuck Forever', Babyshambles retrieved their coats from an old-fashioned stand and left the stage.
