Babyshambles cover The Beatles at birthday gig for guitarist Mik Whitnall
Pete Doherty and co also roadtest new material at south London gig
Pete Doherty and co played new tracks including 'Fireman' and 'Natives At The Gates Of Rome', and also covered The Beatles towards the end of the gig at Lewisham's Dirty South.
Despite Dirty South's bouncers struggling to stop fans from getting onstage throughout the gig, Babyshambles played a 15-song set that also included a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' sung by the band and crowd to Whitnall. "21-years-old and never been pissed," the guitarist quipped after the singalong.
The two Beatles covers – 'Do You Want To Know A Secret' and 'She Loves You' – were followed by a raucous version of Babyshambles' 'Fuck Forever' which ended with the crowd storming the stage and mobbing Doherty.
Midway through Babyshambles' performance, the band took a break to allow support band The Skuzzies back onstage to play a 15-minute set.
