Pete Doherty has revealed that he nearly scrapped Babyshambles' UK tour just three hours before their first gig.

The band, who recently released their third album 'Sequel To The Prequel', arrived onstage 90 minutes late for the opening night of their UK tour at Brixton Jamm last week (September 3). Speaking in an interview in this week's NME, available digitally and on newsstands now, the singer said that he no longer felt the need to play gigs to try to meet women as he had a girlfriend.

"Up until about three hours ago I was gonna pull the whole [tour] to be honest," he said. "I mean, why do we do it? Why do we start bands and sing songs? It's for one thing – to pull birds. And if you're finally in love with someone then you don't have to get onstage and make an arse of yourself."

Babyshambles' UK tour continues this evening (September 11) with a date at Bristol O2 Academy and will then take in a further 13 shows, wrapping up with a gig at Bournemouth O2 Academy on September 21. The band's most recent album, 'Sequel To The Prequel', is the follow-up to their 2007 effort 'Shotter's Nation' and features a cameo from The Vaccines' Justin Young.

Babyshambles will play:

Bristol O2 Academy (September 11)
Oxford O2 Academy (13)
London O2 Academy Brixton (14)
Cardiff University (15)
