Barenaked Ladies frontman's drug charges reduced

Steven Page was accused of cocaine possession

Barenaked Ladies frontman's drug charges reduced

Barenaked Ladies' frontman Steven Page had his drug charges reduced from felony to misdemeanour charges in a New York court yesterday (October 28).

The lead singer and guitarist, 38, was arrested last July and charged with cocaine possession when visiting his girlfriend Christine Benedicto at her apartment in Fayetteville, New York.

In addition to reducing the charges, the Fayetteville Village Court issued adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, which means the charges will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for six months, reports the Associated Press.

"I'm grateful...for this opportunity to further prove myself as a productive and law-abiding member of society," Page said in court. "I look forward to the next six months as a period of healing and growth."

Page's arrest came at a time when Barenaked Ladies were promoting a new children's album.
