Basement Jaxx close opening night at Wireless 2009

Plus Dizzee Rascal and Jack Penate get the crowd dancing in the sun at Hyde Park

Basement Jaxx wrapped up the first night of the Wireless festival in London last night (July 4) with a spectacular stageshow.

The dance duo brought on a full live backing band and staged a special laser show for their headlining performance at Hyde Park.

In between a set laced with a host of their hit singles, the band debuted a series of new tracks from their forthcoming album 'Scars' including hit single 'Raindrops', 'Twerk', 'She's No Good' and 'Feelings Gone', which was showcased live for the first time.

During the performance the pair also took time to throw in a remix of Kings Of Leon's Number One hit 'Sex On Fire' and they played a few bars of The White Stripes' 'Seven Nation Army'.

The biggest cheers came for the likes of 'Romeo' which was played acoustically by Simon Ratcliffe over Kele Le Roc's powerful vocals, 'Red Alert', signature tune 'Where's Your Head At' and set closer 'Bingo Bango'

Earlier, Dizzee Rascal warmed up for the dance duo, playing exactly the same set as he did at Glastonbury last weekend, bar the Michael Jackson medley, opening with his cover of The Ting Tings 'That's Not My Name' before rapping over MIA's 'Paper Planes' and finally whipping the crowd into a frenzy at the end with his Number One hit 'Bonkers'.

Over on the Second Stage, The Streets played an energetic set as Mike Skinner and co dipped into their back catalogue firing out the likes of 'Fit But You Know It', 'Let's Push Things Forward', 'Everything Is Borrowed' and 'Never Went To Church'.

Meanwhile, Jack Penate performed a host of tracks from his recent album 'Everything Is New' during a sun drenched mid-afternoon show on the Main Stage which saw the singer jump into the crowd at one point and mistake Wireless for the forthcoming Lovebox Festival as he launched into recent single 'Be The One'.

Earlier Manchester newcomers Delphic played a dance heavy set as did Filthy Dukes, who opened the Main Stage.

Superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold meanwhile drew one of the biggest crowds of the festival to the Second Stage for a set which saw him play a mix of Red Hot Chili Peppers single 'Otherside' along with Jacques Le Cont's Thin White Duke remix of The Killers's signature anthem 'Mr Brightside'.
