Liam Gallagher has defended his decision to play Oasis songs this summer.

His band Beady Eye have avoided performing anything but tracks from their debut 'Different Gear, Still Speeding' and covers during their gigs so far, despite Noel Gallagher regularly playing Oasis tracks in his 'High Flying Birds' shows. But yesterday he confirmed that he will perform songs by his former band at Japan's Fuji Festival in July.

Some NME.COM users reacted angrily to the news, with Gaby Mckay writing: "While I'd love to hear those songs, this smacks of desperation," while Piotr Samyski added: "Confession of failure." However, the former Oasis frontman himself has hit back on Twitter, writing:

Listen up squares we're playing them live not re-recording them so chill.

The singer had previously said he felt it was the right time to play songs by his former band after his brother Noel performed them on his own tour adding: "I feel they're just as much my songs as they are Noel's. And if people don't like it, go to the bar or fuck off. If they do like it, jump up and down, let's have a good time."

Last week (March 10), Liam was voted as the greatest frontman of all time. In the poll, which was conducted by radio station XFM, he beat the likes of Freddie Mercury, Dave Grohl and Matt Bellamy to take top spot.
