Beastie Boys have settled a legal disagreement with toy company GoldieBlox over copyright infringement.

The feminist toy company were hit with legal action by the US hip-hop act after they parodied their song 'Girls' in an advert without their permission, claiming that their take on the track could be considered "fair use". The case has now been dismissed with both sides agreeing to an undisclosed settlement, The Hollywood Reporter states.

The legal case ran into the new year when it was revealed that Goldiblox had taken preemptive legal action against Beastie Boys. According to the counterclaims, GoldieBlox has produced videos parodying music by Queen and Daft Punk among others.

In December, GoldieBlox wrote an open letter to Mike D and Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys, seemingly backing down from the court case.

The advert took the misogynistic lyrics of the original track and replaced them with lines about females taking part in science and engineering industries. A 30-second version of the advert was aired during this year's Super Bowl.
