Beastie Boys made a surprise appearance at SXSW in Austin yesterday (March 16).
The hip-hop veterans were in Texas for the five-day urban festival, and rumours had been rife that they would make a surprise appearance, with whispers that they would show up unannounced at a number of different venues.
Crowds had gathered at the Fox And Hound club on Wednesday night (March 15) after word spread that they would be appearing as the listed 'special guests' after a surprise show from The Flaming Lips.
But that story turned out to be a red herring, and they finally appeared – completely unannounced – at Stubbs BBQ on Thursday at 7pm (March 16).
After a few tip-offs throughout the day, those in the know queued for most of the afternoon before being treated to an hour-long show comprising their greatest hits.
Mike D, Ad Rock and MCA kicked off with 'Brass Monkey' and went on to wow the lucky few who made it in with hits including 'Sure Shot', 'No Sleep Til Brooklyn', 'Intergalactic' and 'Ch-Check It Out'.
