Beck plays secret show in New York

The star takes audience requests at surprise show

Beck capped a week of New York-area shows in increasingly smaller venues with a secret gig at the tiny Knitting Factory.

The star and his band delivered a stripped-down hour-long set at the Manhattan venue on Thursday (October 26).

Following a DJ turn by Roots' drummer ?uestlove, Beck took to the stage wearing a battered fedora and blazer. He barely spoke, except to take requests (including 'Beercan' from his 1994 breakthrough album 'Mellow Gold').

The plugged-in party set came in ragged contrast to the pop troubadour's acoustic performance on Sunday at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, a majestic former synagogue. Other New York stops included the Theater at Madison Square Garden, the Loews cinema in Jersey City, and mtvU's Woodie Awards, held at Roseland Ballroom.
