All aboard! Belle and Sebastian to set sail with four-day festival cruise

The Scottish band will perform with established and emerging acts as they journey around the Med

Belle and Sebastian have announced a self-curated, four-day music festival at sea. Check out the trailer and find more details below.

Named ‘The Boaty Weekender’, the event will see the band set sail around the Mediterranian in August 2019. They’ll perform onboard alongside established and emerging artists.

The festival will mark the 20th anniversary of Belle and Sebastian’s ‘Bowlie Weekender’, which offered up performances from The Flaming Lips, Mogwai, Mercury Rev, Snow Patrol and more.

“We have got our hands on quite a large boat, and we’re loading it up with some ace groups for a four-day sail round The Med,” the band say of the unique project.

“Join us August 8–12, 2019 on the beautiful Norwegian Jade as we depart from Barcelona and make our way to Cagliari, Sardinia to spend some time on dry land with you beautiful groovers.”

As well as gigs, the Scottish group promise yoga, cocktails, club nights, quizzes and scrabble tournaments.

They add that they’ll be “gigs upon gigs from some of our good friends and favourite acts in rock ‘n’ roll across five stages throughout the ship”.

The band will perform two unique shows and take part in an intimate live conversation.

Meanwhile, Belle and Sebastian recently joined the line-up for this year’s Latitude Festival. Performing ahead of Solange’s headline set, the band will appear as a UK exclusive.

Speaking to Dork about the upcoming show, keyboardist Chris Geddes said: “Latitude is a great festival, we’re really excited to be playing at it again this year. Hopefully this time my mum will behave herself”.

Belle and Sebastian released the third part of their ‘How To Solve Our Human Problems’ EP trilogy back in February. Speaking to NME about the releases, Stuart Murdoch said that he’d been “inspired by the dystopian nightmare” of our current world.
