ROUGH DEAL FOR B&S

The Scottish indie popsters sign to their favourite label...

BELLE AND SEBASTIAN have signed to ROUGH TRADE across the world.

The Scottish indie stars are now labelmates with The Strokes and become one of the first signings to the newly formed Rough Trade America in the US.

Rough Trade's Geoff Travis said in a statement: "It is a big responsibility for us to try and do something with such an important band, but one that we intend to meet. When we first heard 'Tigermilk' it was something we fell in love with and regretted not being involved with the band. So it's great that we now have the opportunity.

"We feel that Belle And Sebastian are writing some of the best songs in modern
rock'n'roll, and we would like a lot more people to hear them."

Bandmember Stuart Murdoch added: "B&S are now excited and happy to be on the best label that ever existed in my opinion, Rough Trade, and we're proud that we are going to be one of the first bands on a new label, Rough Trade America. So I'm really buzzing.

"I just think we are so lucky, it's the perfect situation for us. Jeepster and Matador were perfect for us, but it's time to try something new. So we're getting to work straight away to write a new record."

Belle And Sebastian are currently touring European festivals, and are planning on working on a new album in breaks between shows.
