Belle And Sebastian play biggest ever US show

The band get stage invasion at Hollywood Bowl

Belle & Sebastian ended their biggest ever US gig with a stage invasion last night (July 6).

The band, who played Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, watched as sections of the 18,000 capacity crowd rushed on to join the group onstage as they played closing song 'The Boy With The Arab Strap'.

The Scots band, backed by the 80-piece LA Philharmonic Orchestra, performed a career-spanning set, from their 1996 debut album, 'Tigermilk', to recent effort 'The Life Pursuit', which was recorded in Los Angeles.

Singer Stuart Murdoch let the excitement of the band’s largest US show get the better of him at times, frequently stagediving into the crowd, inviting an audience member on stage to dance with him for 'Jonathan David' and going on an epic run during 2004 hit single 'Your Cover's Blown'.

Earlier support had come from American band The Shins.

Former Hole singer Courtney Love, was among the audience members who gave the Scottish band a lengthy standing ovation.
