Pair co-write song for new Pretenders album...

Bernard Butler has written a song for Chrissie Hynde called 'Back Down' which will be on the new Pretenders album. Butler has also unveiled details of his own new album, due out next year.

Bernard told NME the idea to work together had grown from the fact that they used to share the same manager.

"I'm a big fan of hers anyway, so I jumped at the chance," said Butler. "She's an icon. I just love her and I'm really happy with the song."

Some song titles on the album, the follow-up to this year's debut, 'People Move On', are 'Has Your Mind Got Away', 'You Must Go On', '70 Miles', 'Friends And Lovers' and 'Souvenir'. The latter is tipped as the next single.

"With the last album I wrote lots of songs beforehand but only used about four in the end," said Bernard. "The rest were ideas formed in the studio. This time, I've already written the 11 songs that are going to be on the record plus B-sides for the singles that'll be released."

Bernard will be playing a lot of this new material on his tour which continues today at Bristol University (October 14), Portsmouth Pyramid Centre (15), Norwich UEA (17), Sheffield University (18), Wolverhampton Wulfren Hall (19), Manchester University (21), Leeds Metropolitan University (22), Aberdeen Music Hall (24), Glasgow QMU (25), Nottingham Rock City (27) and London Shepherd's Bush Empire (28).
