Etta James: 'I'll whip Beyonce's ass for singing for Barack Obama'

Singer hits out at star for singing her song for the US president

Etta James has slammed Beyonce for singing James' song 'At Last' at Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony in Washington DC on January 20.

James, who is set to be portrayed by Beyonce in forthcoming film 'Cadillac Records', mocked Obama and said the singer would get her "ass whipped" for singing the cover for him.

The veteran was speaking from the stage during a gig in Seattle, reports Music-news.com.

"You guys know your president right?" she said. "You know, the one with the big ears. Yeah, wait a minute, he ain't my president, he might be yours.

"I tell you that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she gonna get her ass whipped. The great Beyonce. Now like I said, she ain't mine. I can't stand Beyonce!

"She had no business up there singing. Singing on a big ole, big ole president day and going be singing my song that I've been singing forever."

I agree with her. There's something about Etta James' version and her voice that has a depth and experience about it that Beyoncé can't compete with or even attempt to emulate. Nothing against Beyoncé, but her voice is too clean cut and unaffected. Listening to any of Etta James' records and knowing her history, she is desreving of the 'tortured genius' title.
