Beyonce and Lady Gaga lead the nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards, which were announced today (August 4).
Both pop stars led the pack with nine nods apiece. Britney Spears, Kanye West and Eminem also garnered their fair share of nominations. They will all be competing for the coveted video of the year award.
Coldplay's showing was not too shabby either -- Chris Martin and co racked up a total of four award nominations. Meanwhile, Kings Of Leon garnered their first VMA nomination for best rock video for their track 'Use Somebody'. They'll compete against Coldplay, Green Day, Paramore and Fall Out Boy in the category.
The MTV Video Music Awards are set to take place at New York's Radio City Music Hall on September 13. They will be hosted by British comedian Russell Brand.
