'Glastonbury effect' helps propel Beyonce's '4' straight to albums chart peak

Coldplay, Mumford And Sons and Elbow also score chart rises after playing at Worthy Farm last weekend

Beyonce has gone straight to Number One in the albums chart with her new record '4' tonight (July 3).

The singer is among a number of artists who have benefited from what the Official Charts Company has dubbed the 'Glastonbury effect' after her acclaimed headline slot on the Pyramid Stage last Sunday (June 26).

Her 2009 album 'I Am Sasha Fierce' rose 89 places to Number 38 while Mumford and Sons, Noah And The Whale, Plan B and Chase and Status moved up five places or more within the Top 40.

There were new entries for Biffy Clyro - in at Number 9 with 'Revolutions/Live At Wembley' - and Kaiser Chiefs, whose new record 'The Future Is Medieval' debuted at Number 10.

Further down the chart, Stevie Nicks' new album 'In Your Dreams' entered at Number 14 and Foster The People's debut 'Torches' went in at Number 24.

In the singles chart, Jason Derulo 's 'I Don't Wanna Go Home' clocked up a second week at Number One, while Beyonce scored the highest new entry at Number 3 with 'Best Thing I Never Had'.

Coldplay also benefited from the 'Glastonbury effect' after their headlining slot last Saturday (25)- their latest single 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' rose 32 places to Number 10, while their 2002 single 'In My Place' re-entered the chart at Number 40.
