Beyonce has given birth to a baby girl, according to reports.

The star and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, are said to have welcomed their daughter into the world at a hospital in New York last night (January 7).

E! News claims that the child was delivered by C-section and is also reporting that Jay-Z has told his friends that her name will be Ivy Blue Carter, although representatives for the couple are yet to confirm what the baby's official name is.

Rihanna was amongst friends of the couple who offered their congratulations via Twitter, writing: "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih."

Beyonce announced that she and Jay-Z were expecting their first child in August last year, but her pregnancy was constantly surrounded by controversy.

The pop star unveiled her baby bump during the MTV Video Music Awards, telling crowds: "I want you to feel the love inside me". However, she was subsequently attacked by commentators who believed her baby bump was a prosthetic fake. She later labelled the criticisms and conspiracy theories as "stupid, ridiculous and false".

In November, meanwhile, Jay-Z insisted that he would be an attentive father and was "100 per cent" prepared to help change nappies. It had been rumoured that he and Beyonce were expecting a baby girl after Beyonce's former Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland accidentally revealed the sex of the couple's baby.
