Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has confirmed that her friends Beyonce and Jay-Z have named their first born child Blue Ivy Carter.

Earlier reports suggested that the baby was called Ivy Blue Carter, but Paltrow set the record straight on Twitter, posting a message saying "Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already." and following it up with "It's Blue Ivy Carter!" after fans asked: "is it ivy blue, or blue ivy? so confused..".

The couple welcomed their daughter into the world at a hospital in New York on Saturday (January 7).

Rihanna was amongst friends of the couple who offered their congratulations via Twitter, writing: "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih."

Beyonce announced that she and Jay-Z were expecting their first child in August last year, but her pregnancy was constantly surrounded by controversy.

The pop star unveiled her baby bump during the MTV Video Music Awards, telling crowds: "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside me". However, she was subsequently attacked by commentators who believed her baby bump was a prosthetic fake. She later labelled the criticisms and conspiracy theories as "stupid, ridiculous and false".
