Researchers in Northern Australia have renamed a rare breed of horse fly after Beyonce.

The fly, which will now be known as Scaptia (Plinthina) Beyonceae, was first collected in 1981, which is the same year as the former Destiny's Child singer's birth. It also features a golden patch on its abdomen and it is for this reason that scientists have opted to name it after Beyonce. You can see a picture of the fly on the right of your screen.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Bryan Lessard from Australia's science agency CSIRO said that the golden patch had led them to daub the fly as the "all-time diva of flies".

Lesard said of the renaming: "It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly's abdomen that led me to name this fly in honour of the performer Beyonce as well as giving me the chance to demonstrate the fun side of taxonomy – the naming of species."

This isn't the first time a member of the animal kingdom has been renamed after a celebrity. There is a frog, Hyla stingi, which is named after Sting and a spider, Pachygnatha zappa, which is named after Frank Zappa.

Beyonce has just given birth to her first child with husband Jay-Z. Blue Ivy Carter was born last week and yesterday (January 12) became the youngest person ever to be credited on the U.S. Billboard chart.

Jay-Z released a new track earlier this week which is titled 'Glory' and is dedicated to his daughter. The track features her coos and cries, for which she is officially credited and entered the Billboard Chart at Number 74, the highest new entry on the chart this week.
