Beyonce pays tribute to Whitney Houston at comeback gig
'Love On Top' singer returns to live performance with show in Atlantic City
The 'Countdown' singer was performing at the multi-million pound Revel Resort in the New Jersey state city, her first show since the birth of her daughter Blue Ivy Carter in January.
Before playing 'Halo', Beyonce sang a stripped-back version of Whitney Houston's 1992 smash hit cover of Dolly Parton's 'I Will Always Love You'. You can watch Beyonce sing the song a cappella by scrolling down the page and clicking.
The singer was playing the Atlantic City resort show as part of a trio of gigs to celebrate the US Memorial Day weekend. It was her first set of gigs since August 2011, when she played four nights at New York's Roseland Ballroom.
Elsewhere in her set, Beyonce played through a selection of hits from all four of her albums and she performed some classic Destiny Child tracks. In addition to her own material, she also covered Lauryn Hill's 'Ex-Factor'.
In attendance at the gig was her husband Jay-Z, who watched the entire performance from the side of the stage. Clearly delighted with his wife's triumphant return to live performance, the rapper took to Twitter to hail the singer's talent.
"I'm gonna say this and then I'm gonna end mine." BEYONCE is the best performer in the world. Period.— Mr. Carter (@S_C_) May 26, 2012
In February this year, it was reported that Beyonce was working on two new albums. The singer and her husband Jay-Z welcomed their first child Blue Ivy Carter into the world in January of this year. The following month (February 8), it was reported that the couple applied to the US Patent and Trademark Office on January 26 to own her name.
