Beyoncé admits that she did mime during President Obama's inauguration - watch

Watch the singer perform 'The Star Spangled banner' live at press conference

Beyonce has admitted for the first time that she did use a pre-recorded backing track when she performed the US national anthem during Barack Obama's inauguration last month.

Holding a press conference ahead of her eagerly-awaited Super Bowl half time show this weekend (February 3), Beyonce sang a rendition of 'Star Spangled Banner' live before telling the room full of journalists, "I wanted to make him (Obama) and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track. I'm very proud of my performance."

Admitting that she did lip-synch her rendition of 'The Star Spangled Banner', she added: "I am a perfectionist, and one thing about me, I practice until my feet bleed. And I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra... Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper soundcheck, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk."

Beyonce then pledged to sing live during her Super Bowl halftime performance on Sunday (February 3). "I will absolutely be singing live," she said. "I am well-rehearsed. I will absolutely be singing live, and this is what I was born to do."

When asked if her old band Destiny's Child would be reuniting at the show this Sunday (February 3) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, she kept her cards close to her chest, saying: "I can't really give you any details. I'm sorry."

However, she went on to state that she would be making an important announcement following her performance at the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, likely regarding future touring plans or her new album.

Jennifer Hudson will also be appearing at the prestigious American Football match, to sing 'America The Beautiful'. She will be joined by the Sandy Hook Elementary Choir.
