Beyonce brought her Mrs Carter tour to London’s O2 Arena in spectacular fashion last night (April 29), making a surprising reference to The Verve during her set.

The nod came during her ballad 'If I Were A Boy', which featured the string motif from The Verve’s 1997 single 'Bitter Sweet Symphony', itself taken from an orchestral version of The Rolling Stones' 'The Last Time'.

With Beyoncé backed by an all-female band, the set was dominated by tracks from 2011's '4' including the Frank Ocean-penned 'I Miss You', which Beyoncé sang seated on a bar stool in a black fedora. Other tracks saw her singing atop a grand piano or, in the case of '1 + 1', flying through a cloud of glitter mid-arena on a wire.

Costume changes were punctuated with short films dominated by images of Beyoncé dressed as an 18th-century monarch, and a brief skit of her fixing a biplane in between baking cupcakes. She dedicated ‘Flaws And All’ to her fans, saying, "I love y’all so much, y’all give me so much energy and love."

Beyonce also covered her former band Destiny's Child's 'Survivor' and sang part of Dolly Parton's 'I Will Always Love You' before closing with ‘Halo' and a brief medley of 'Green Light' and 'Suga Mama'.

Beyoncé played:

'Run The World (Girls)'
'End of Time'
'Flaws And All'
'You Are a Queen (Interlude)'
'If I Were a Boy'
'Get Me Bodied'
'Baby Boy'
'Diva'
'Naughty Girl'
'Party'
'Freakum Dress'
'I Care'
'I Miss You'
'Schoolin' Life'
'Why Don't You Love Me'
'1+1'
'Irreplaceable'
'Love on Top'
'Survivor'
'Crazy In Love'
'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)'
'Grown Woman'
'I Will Always Love You'
'Halo'
'Green Light'/'Suga Mama (Outro)'
