Beyonce brought the opening day of V Festival in Chelmsford, Essex to a close last night (Saturday August 17) with her first of just two European festival dates this year.

The singer, also appearing tonight at the Weston Park leg of the weekender, shrugged off light rain to deliver a 90-minute set spanning her 10-year solo career to date, but sparked controversy by reportedly refusing to grant Channel 4 broadcast rights to her performance, leaving fans to voice their upset on Twitter.

Highlights of the set, which featured seven costume changes, arty video interludes and saw the singer debut a new blonde bob haircut, had been expected to be shown last night as part of the channel's V Festival coverage. However, presenters Edith Bowman and Steve Jones indicated on air that Beyonce had declined them clearance to show her headline set.

Beyonce played a mash-up of 2009 single 'Diva' with Kanye West's 'Clique' as well as a Great Gatsby-themed rendition of 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)' complete with 1920s-style brass and swing choreography. Encore 'Halo' was met with rapturous applause before the singer bid farewell, thanking fans for being "the most important part of the evening and a constant inspiration to me".

Beyonce played:

'Run the World (Girls)'
'End of Time'
'Flaws and All'
'If I Were a Boy'
'Get Me Bodied'
'Baby Boy'
'Diva'
'Naughty Girl'
'Party
'I Miss You'
'Why Don't You Love Me'
'1+1'
'Irreplaceable'
'Crazy in Love'
'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)'
'I Will Always Love You'
'Halo'

V Festival in Chelmsford, Essex continues tonight (August 18) with performances from The Vaccines, Stereophonics, Kendrick Lamar and a headline set from Kings of Leon. Beyonce will headline the Weston Park leg of the weekender tonight.
