Biffy Clyro's US tour has been hit by visa problems - forcing singer Simon Neil to go solo for their first date in Boston last night (September 13).

The band were set to kick off their American dates at Great Scott, but delays in Ben and James Johnston's visas meant their frontman had to perform acoustically alone.

"Unfortunately Biffy Clyro will not be performing in Boston due to immigration/visa delays in London," a statement on Biffyclyro.com explained in the build up to the show. "However, Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro is here and will be performing several songs acoustically. All tickets will be refunded and admittance will be free of charge."

The statement added: "The members of Biffy Clyro sincerely apologise to everyone for this unforeseen occurrence."

The band are due to play in Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago and San Francisco over the next few weeks before they return for a series of UK arena dates, kicking off at Aberdeen AECC on November 25.

Biffy Clyro will play:

Aberdeen AECC (November 25)
Glasgow SECC (26, 27)
Hull Arena (29)
Nottingham Arena (30)
Plymouth Pavilions (December 1)
Manchester Central (3)
London Wembley Arena (4)
