Biffy Clyro: 'Robbie Williams wanted us on his new album'
Biffy Clyro have revealed that they were invited to feature on the new Robbie Williams solo album.

The former Take That man invited the Scottish trio to play football with him when he got wind they were recording in Los Angeles, the band tell NME in this week's issue, which will hit newsstands tomorrow and will also be available digitally.

Drummer Ben Johnston said: "We got asked to play football at Robbie Williams’ house, but we couldn’t do it because we had stuff to do." Singer Simon Neil added: "I got asked to play a solo on his record too, but I turned it down. I wish all the best for Robbie, but I don’t think he needs my help. Bizarrely, I think Slash is going to play the solo now, which makes the whole thing cooler."

The band also speak about their forthcoming double album 'Opposites', which will feature 20-tracks split into two sections, 'The Sand At The Core Of Our Bones' and 'The Land At The End Of Our Toes' – you can watch a trailer for the album below. 'Opposites' is set for release in January or February 2013.

Neil also revealed that the lengthy period of touring following the 2009 release of last album 'Only Revolutions' took its toll on the band. He said: "We worked for so long on the last record and toured for so long, you can get home and don't feel like you belong – you feel like a stranger in your own home".

He adds: "There came a point in the last year where it became clear that if I didn't switch my mentality then things would keep falling apart…It was like, now's the time. If you value your friendships and your relationships, seize a hold of them and make things work. We want another 20 years of this band – we're lifers in music."

You can read the full interview with Biffy Clyro in this week's NME, which will be available on newsstands from tomorrow and also available digitally.
