The final night of the three-date MTV Spanking New Music gigs came to a triumphant climax with a show from headliners Biffy Clyro in Bristol last night (March 24).

Hadouken!, The Wombats and The Twang also played the sold-out gig at the Anson Rooms, which was hosted by Zane Lowe.

Kicking off with recent single ‘Semi-Mental’, Biffy tore through tracks from their forthcoming album, ‘Puzzle’, as well as a host of old favourites, as the fans rapturously sang along.

“Our van broke down on the way here,” singer and guitarist Simon Neil told NME.COM before their show. “We’re looking forward to having a good time tonight. We’ve just seen The Wombats who were really brilliant and write great pop songs…. We don’t really know the other bands so we’re just looking forward to hearing them too.”

New UK chart stars The Twang revealed that had better luck at the show compared to time last time they visited Bristol.

“Last summer when we played with Jamie T, Phil [Etheridge, frontman] spilt his pint over Stu’s [Hartland, guitarist] pedals so after two songs we had to pack up,” guitarist and vocalist Martin Saunders revealed. “There are a few bands here and if they come and see us then, we just do our thing and hopefully they’ll like it, if they don’t like it then it don’t matter.”

The evening started with Liverpudlian newcomers The Wombats who before their set closer, ‘Backfire At The Disco’, led chants of ‘We love Cherub!’, dedicated to their onstage toy wombat.

Hadouken! drove the masses into a neon-coloured frenzy, despite lead vocalist James looking bewildered as his microphone broke halfway through their set.

All the shows can be seen on MTV channels on April 27.
