Scottish trio Biffy Clyro closed the In The City music conference in New York on Thursday night (June 14) with a performance at the Highline Ballroom. Openers Blood Red Shoes made their US debut, followed by hardcore ravers Enter Shikari who put on a typically energetic show.
Biffy Clyro performed several tracks from their brand new album ‘Puzzle’, as well as a smattering of classics from their previous three albums. During the ‘Glitter And Trauma’ finale, frontman Simon Neil threw his guitar to the floor in frustration after technical difficulties, but after swiftly being given a replacement, the band completed the song.
Speaking to NME.COM after the show, Neil admitted that the band is overwhelmed with the success of ‘Puzzle’ in the UK, charting a number two in its first week of release.
“It’s dynamite and totally unexpected too. For a band like us to achieve something like that seems so surreal but I like to think of it as a victory of taste over hype. We beat The Twang, Paul McCartney, Marilyn Manson and the girl from Sugababes (Mutya Buena). The only person we didn’t beat is Rihanna who is the most gorgeous and talented Trinidadian ever so I don’t even mind that. She’s the new Beyonce and ‘Umbrella’ is the new ‘Crazy In Love’!”
‘Puzzle’ is due for release in the US in September.
