STUART ADAMSON REMEMBERED Big Country Tickets
Fans, colleagues and friends pay tribute to tragic Stuart Adamson...
The late BIG COUNTRY frontman STUART ADAMSON is to be remembered at a memorial service in his hometown of DUNFERMLINE on Sunday (January 27).
The singer/guitarist's remaining members will join with the original line-up of his first band The Skids and friends, family and fans for the occasion in the town's Carnegie Hall.
Adamson's manager Ian Grant, who has been helping to organise the service, said that several musicians, including some prominent figures from the Scottish music industry, will also join to pay their respects. Ex-Skids singer Richard
Jobson will host the memorial and there will be archive film footage and music to celebrate the singer/guitarist's life.
Since Adamson was found dead in a hotel room in
Hawaii in December, tributes have poured in from stars
including David Bowie,
href="http://u2.nme.comU2 guitarist The Edge - who described him as "a great inspiration when U2 were starting out" - Travis, who dedicated a song to him at their Scottish shows shortly after his death, Steve Harley, Simple Minds singer Jim Kerr and Big Country producer Steve Lillywhite. The Scottish Parliament have also paid tribute to him.
Tickets for Sunday's event at the Scottish town were made available to fans - who are travelling from across the country to attend - through Grant's website www.trackrecords.tv.
Following the service, on Monday Grant and Scottish concert promoters Regular Music are to meet with the management of Dunfermline FC football stadium to begin discussions for the tribute concert which is planned for the summer.
Grant said he aims to approach some of the musicians who have cited Adamson as an influential figure - including The Edge, Nils Lofgren and Jim
Kerr - to perform.
Other plans being discussed to commemorate the star's life include a TV documentary, a single which could be used to raise funds for alcohol awareness groups, and a "best of" compilation spanning his career from The Skids through Big Country to his most recent solo work.
The 43-year-old star committed suicide in Hawaii in
December after battling with alcoholism. He was buried in Dunfermline at a private funeral service on December 29.
