BILLIE GETS DOC'S CALL!

Former pop star BILLIE PIPER will be 'DOCTOR WHO''s next female companion.

In a regeneration worthy of the timelord himself, Piper has spent the last year forging a career as a serious actress, with critically acclaimed roles in BBC dramas 'The Canterbury Tales' and 'Bella And The Boys'.

Now, after months of speculation, it has been announced that Piper has landed the role of feisty barmaid Rose Tyler in the cult sci-fi series, set to return to BBC1 next year after a 14-year absence.

Piper, who enjoyed a string of hits including 'Honey To The Bee' and 'Because We Want To', said: "I'm absolutely thrilled because Doctor Who is such an iconic show."

She will star alongside Christopher Eccleston in the series, being penned by 'Queer As Folk' writer Russell T Davies and 'The League Of Gentlemen''s Mark Gatiss.
