Bill Bragg, Kate Nash and Get Cape perform reduced G20 protest set

Musicians play acoustic slots at Bank Of England protest

Musicians hoping to join the G20 protests at the Bank Of England in London today (April 1) have been frustrated in their efforts.

As previously reported, the likes of Billy Bragg and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly performed at the G20 Meltdown's "Financial Fools Day" protest.

The performances eventually took place shortly before 1pm but were scaled down because the square around the Bank Of England was cordoned off by police, meaning it was impossible to get a suitable sound system to the performers.

Our reporter who was in crowd at the protest said that Bragg, Nash and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly's Sam Duckworth played several songs acoustically for the protesters who were inside the cordon.

Enter Shikari's Roughton 'Rou' Reynolds was also among those being contained by police, although the crowds are now being allowed to leave.

Meanwhile, a branch of the Royal Bank Of Scotland adjacent to the protest was broken into by a small group on the fringe of the march.

Head to NME.COM/photos to view our picks of the 21 most powerful protest anthems.

Meanwhile, you can listen to all 21 tracks, and nominate your own favourite protest anthems, on the Office blog.

"Thank fuck for everyone's sake!!""hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!"I know, heaven forbid anyone should be out there railing at our ridiculous, flawed government!Silly musicians, silly naive fools, get back in line and tolerate it like all the rest.I dunno, what's the world coming too when mere artists feel the need to pass comment on our mindless society. Just sign your contract, be quiet and assume the position (and don't forget to enjooooy it). You are free - to do as we tell you fnord!Shouldn't they be concentrating on writing songs about what really matters in this world? How they gonna impress the brain(washed)dead indie massif with protests against the goverment (you know, the people your mummies and daddies pay tax to so you can sit idly in your rooms myspacing and wanking yourselves to death).Go home and write about kids in tracksuits, how long you've been wearing your jeans and how somebody pulled the bird you had your eye on for 5 minutes one night in t'pub. We're really disappointed in you!

Thank fuck for eveyones sake!!Nothing wrong with musicians passing comment on 'our mindless society', just makes you wince when said 'artists' are completely brainless tools. Trust me, as a tax-paying music-lover, nothing gives me greater pleasure than publicity hungry, no-talent 'artists' showing the rest of the world how fucking stupid they are.
