BILLY JOEL STABLE AFTER CRASH

The star is airlifted to hospital...

BILLY JOEL
is in a stable condition after his car swerved off the road and struck a tree.


The accident occurred late on Saturday (January 25) in Sag Harbour, Long Island, when the star lost control of his 2002 Mercedes Benz.There were no passengers in the car.

Joel, 53,
was taken by ambulance to East Hampton Airport and then airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.


Police have said It is not clear whether alcohol was involved.


Joel suffered a bruised face last June when he crashed his Merc into a fire hydrant. He later checked himself into a rehab centre for drug and alcohol abuse treatment.
