Billy Joel and Carlos Santana were amongst those to receive Kennedy Center Honors in the presence of US President Barack Obama last night (December 8) in Washington, DC.

The annual ceremony, which recognises those working in the performing arts, saw Tom Morello performing 'Black Magic Woman' with Juanes in honour of Santana, before a performance of Willie Dixon's 'I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man' by Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood and Sheila E, reports Rolling Stone.

Billy Joel's tribute was performed by Tony Bennett, as well as Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco, who sang 'Big Shot' before Don Henley played 'She's Got a Way'. Rufus Wainwright then played 'New York State of Mind' and 'Piano Man' with Garth Brooks, Bennett and Henley.

Beastie Boys' DJ Mix Master Mike and Snoop Dogg were amongst those to perform a tribute to jazz pianist Herbie Hancock.

In 2012 Led Zeppelin received the Kennedy Center Honors and Foo Fighters covered Led Zeppelin's 'Rock and Roll' at the ceremony with frontman Dave Grohl playing drums and drummer Taylor Hawkins on lead vocals.
