Bjork bids farewell to US at LA show

The singer winds down 'Volta' tour

Bjork pulled out all the stops for her penultimate US show this year at Los Angeles' new Nokia Theatre LA Live.

The Icelandic chanteuse took the stage wearing a ruffled gold dress, backed by a neon-clad 10-piece female horn section as well as a drummer, keyboardist and two men with laptops.

Multi-coloured flags adorned the stage, and large screens revealed what the laptop-players were doing with their high-tech, touch-screen control panels.

Things started off slowly and built to a rousing climax that culminated with a rave-like rendition of 'Hyperballad', replete with an elaborate laser display, techno drum beats and confetti blasts.

The 90-minute set focused heavily on Bjork's latest album, 'Volta', as well as 2004's 'Medulla', and the 7,100-seat venue was nearly filled to capacity.

"This is probably our last show in the US for a few years," Bjork told the crowd, who moaned back in disappointment. "So this is a nice goodbye for a while," she added.

Bjork ended the night with a rousing encore that included the call-to-arms 'Declare Independence', during which she sang 'Happy Birthday' to a member of the stage crew and shouted repeatedly, "Declare independence! Don't let them do that to you!"

Bjork is set to play her final US show on the 'Volta' tour on Saturday (December 15) in Las Vegas.
