Björk speaks out about Kosovo independence

Singer makes statement following EXIT Festival 'cancellation' drama

Bjork has released a statement today (March 5) following the controversy surrounding her recent vocal support for independence for the Kosovo region, which she made recently during a gig in Tokyo.

The Icelandic singer has outlined again that she supports Kosovo’s claim for independence. The country’s parliament made a declaration of its independence from Serbia last month.

Bjork’s management claimed that she was dropped from the bill of the forthcoming EXIT festival in Serbia following the outburst, although the EXIT organisers have disputed this. , who dedicated the track 'Declare Independence' to Kosovo at the Tokyo gig, does not address this issue in the statement.

Bjork’s statement reads: “I would like to put importance on that I am not a politician, I am first and last a musician and as such I feel my duty to try to express the whole range of human emotions.

“The urge for declaring independence is just one of them but an important one that we all feel at some times in our lives. This song (which appears on the star's 2007 album 'Volta') was written more with the personal in mind but the fact that it has translated to its broadest meaning, the struggle of a suppressed nation, gives me much pleasure.

“I would like to wish all individuals and nations good luck in their battle for independence. Justice! Warmth, Bjork.”

i think its not ok from bjoks side to keep "attacking" the festival organizers on such way. its not the fault of the organizers that they had to cancel the show, and they did not cancel it because they did not like her opinion. they canceled it because they were afraid how the crowd would react, and they made the best possible decision.

and at the end it sounds very nice what bjork said about independence, but the sad truth is that she has no clue whats going on on the balkan.

If she likes KOSOVO why she does not go there and play her concert to albanians!!
Why she does not donate them money?
If she talks about canceling her concert that means it hurts her.
she likes money then.
im sure she does not even know where kosovo is and who are people who lives there!!
Why she does not support independence of rep.srpska from bosnia?
I liked her untill now. Thanx a god she is not coming to EXIT.
i will be there!

Freedom of speech is not the problem,it is her total ignorance on the political issues. She should have studied better the political background on this particular matter. She compromised herself and showed herself to be very naive. She should make music and not interfere in things she knows nothing about.
