BJORK AND KYLIE'S HIGHLAND FLING

The stars will attend screenings of their respective movies [b]'Dancer In The Dark'[/b] and [b]'Cut'[/b]...

Bjork and Kylie Minogue head for EDINBURGH next month for the launches of their latest movies at the INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL.

Bjvrk's Palme D'Or-winning musical 'Dancer In The Dark' will open the Festival, with a gala showing on August 13 at the ABC Cinema, which the singer is expected to attend.

She is also one of the featured highlights of the Mirrorball section of Edinburgh Film Festival this year, which annually profiles music video directors, and has previously had guest appearances from Jarvis Cocker and Air. A 70-minute retrospective of Bjvrk's videos, which have been directed by Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze and Stephane Sedanoui amongst others, will be held at the Filmhouse 2 on August 14. A spokesperson for the Festival told nme.com that it was not yet clear whether the singer would be present at this event or not.

Kylie's horror movie, 'Cut', premieres at the Cameo cinema with a late-night showing on August 19, at half-past-midnight. She plays Hilary Jacobs, who is caught up in a celluloid nightmare when a group of students attempt to complete the filming of a horror movie that was previously abandoned, but are picked off by a maniacal murderer. It co-stars Molly Ringwald and is directed by Kimble Rendall, a former member of Australian band Hoodoo Gurus.

Kylie has previously appeared in 'The Delinquents', 'Street Fighter' and 'Bio-Dome', as well as the stint as Charlene in Aussie soap 'Neighbours' which made her a household name.

Other Mirrorball events include a live discussion session with composer Carter Burwell, who wrote music for glam rock movie Velvet Goldmine and several Coen Brothers films, plus animated video highlights from the man behind the videos UNKLE and Quannum and Grooverider, Richard Kenworthy.

Meanwhile, the Rushes Soho Shorts Festival, which takes place in London from July 29 to August 4, is to host the Innovation TK Music Video Award. Fourteen music videos have been nominated, including - Blur - 'Coffee And TV', Super Furry Animals - 'Do Or Die', Chemical Brothers - 'Hey Boy, Hey Girl', Muse - 'Unintended', Supergrass - 'Mary' and Garbage - 'The World Is Not Enough'.
