BARRY WHITE MISSES OUT AS BLACK LEGEND HIT NUMBER ONE

Soul superstar Barry White is to lose out on hundreds of thousands of pounds in performance royalties after he refused to let Black Legend use his voice on their new UK number one hit single 'YOU SEE THE TROUBLE WITH ME.'.

Black Legend wanted to sample the 1976 Barry White original from his album 'Let The Music Play' on their record, but The Walrus Of Love refused.

Instead, Black Legend were forced to employ the talents of Bazza sound-a-like Elroy Powell - and last night (Sunday June 18), the record shot straight into the singles chart at Number One. It replaced Sonique who'd spent three weeks at the top spot with her hit 'It Feels So Good', ending the longest spell at number one by a single so far this year.

In a relatively quiet week for single sales there were only six new entries on the UK Top 20. Richard Ashcroft's second solo single 'Money To Burn' could only manage a disappointing Number 17, way below the number three of his comeback track 'Song For The Lovers'. The former Verve frontman's eagerly anticipated solo album 'Alone With Everybody' is released through Hut Recordings next Monday (June 26).

Moby, meanwhile, maintains his impressive grip on the nation's charts. While album 'Play' continues to be the second biggest seller of the year, his single 'Porcelain' entered the chart at Number Five.

Darude with 'Sandstorm' at Number Three and 'The One' by Backstreet Boys at Number Eight completed the entries in the Top 10, while young British R&B diva Jamelia hit Number 11 with 'Call Me'.

Teen television and chart stars S Club Seven went straight in at Number One in the album charts with '7'.
