Black Lips headlined a Shockwaves NME Awards show in London last night (February 15) – with San Diego newcomers The Soft Pack playing their first UK show as a support act.

The Atlanta four-piece debuted a series of songs from their forthcoming new album, '200 Million Thousand' (out March 16), plus older fan favourites including 'O Katrina' and 'Bad Kids'.

Taking the stage, after guitarist Cole Alexander briefly wondered out front to borrow a guitar pick from an audience member, Black Lips emerged to play an hour-long set to huge applause.

The show didn't see any of the [url=http://www.nme.com/news/black-lips/39755]chaos that saw them strip naked and battle with security guards when they last played in the capital, in the Heaven venue in September.

The band still pulled off an energetic set, however, with Alexander falliung onto his back during new song 'Drugs' and kicking the air, then performing his trademark stage move of spitting into the air then catching the projectile phlegm in his mouth.

After making repeated calls for "more beer!" through a distorted microphone, Alexander and co ended their set with 'Buried Alive' and 'Juvenile', from 2007 album 'Good Bad Not Evil' before a brief encore.

Black Lips played:

'Take My Heart'

'Drugs'

'Sea of Blasphemy'

'Oh Katrina'

'Dirty Hands'

'Cold Hands'

'Dutronc'

'Elijah'

'Starting Over'

'I'll Be With You'

'Fad'

'Bad Kids'

'Not A Problem'

'Lock And Key'

'Buried Alive'

'Juvenile'

'Fairy'

'Wild Man'

Earlier in the evening The Soft Pack opened proceedings by playing their first ever UK gig, with a half-hour set that included the previous single 'Right And Wrong' and online favourite 'Parasites'.

Frontman Matt Lamkin kept banter to a minimum, explaining to the crowd that the band were "really jet-lagged" – although they showed little signs of fatigue, playing a well-received show.

Brooklyn trio, the Vivian Girls, followed with a set including 'Wild Eyes' and 'Just A Joke', with the trio making reference to the venue's location: inside a shopping centre.

"We love the fact that this place is in a mall – we're girls!" guitarist Cassie Ramone told the crowd.

Bassist Kickball Katy later praised the other bands on the bill, saying: "This show is so awesome. I mean, The Soft Pack? Black Lips? Hello!".
