Black Lips, Rascals, Metronomy play Liverpool Sound City

Rascals joined by Echo And The Bunnymen man in northern city

Black Lips, Metronomy and The Rascals were among the acts who played on the second night of the Liverpool Sound City festival last night (May 21).

The Rascals played a set of covers at the Heebie Jeebies venue for the after-show part of a showing of the 'Awaydays' film, at one point joined by Echo And The Bunnymen guitarist Will Sergeant to play the latter band's song 'All That Jazz'.

The band also covered The Strokes' 'Last Nite' plus The Beatles' 'Come Together', 'Be My Baby' by The Ronettes and Iggy Pop's 'The Passenger'.

Earlier in the night Black Lips headlined a 'U.S Underground' special at the Barfly.

Bassist Jared Swilley revealed to the crowd how he had appeared in court in London that morning but "they dropped the charges". This was in reference to him getting arrested after allegedly "getting caught doing something on CCTV".

Over the course of the high-octane set, which saw them play crowd-pleasers such as 'O Katrina' and 'Veni Vidi Vici', frontman Cole Alexander jumped into the crowd repeatedly.

Telepathe headlined the bar downstairs in the same venue with a reserved set, while The Soft Pack played the Loft area.

Later in the night Metronomy played a late-night set at Alma de Cuba.

Liverpool Sound City continues tonight, with Little Boots and White Lies among the acts set to play.
