The Black Lips are to record part of their new album with Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, bassist Jared Swilley has confirmed.

The Black Lips are recording their follow-up to 2011's 'Arabia Mountain' LP now and revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that they're heading to Nashville to work with Carney, who will produce a portion of the record. After explaining that the album will be a combination of "club bangers and southern rock anthem", Swilley disclosed the name of the album's other special guest. "Bradford [Cox] from Deerhunter usually makes it on our albums in some capacity as well."

In the meantime, The Black Lips are gearing up to release their tour documentary Kids Like You and Me on DVD. The film, directed by Bill Cody, tells the story of the band's 2012 four-week tour across the Middle East, taking in gigs in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Cyprus.

Speaking about some of the more unusual dates, Swilley said: "Dubai was a little weird because we weren't allowed to talk to the audience at all or interact with them. We had to play in a hotel so we were considered employees of the hotel, and weren't allowed to speak to anyone unless we were spoken to."

The Black Lips now want to become the first band to play on all seven continents. "We're working real hard to get to Antarctica right now. There is a research centre there and it has a pub. There are 1,500 to 1,600 contractors and scientists working there, so we just have to get the money to get down there."

Kids Like You and Me recently premiered in LA, and is due for release on DVD shortly.
