Ozzy Osbourne confirms Black Sabbath will record their final album in 2015

The group will team up with producer Rick Rubin again for the release

Black Sabbath have announced that they will record one final album before calling time on the band.

Despite reports that their 2013 LP ’13’ would be their last, singer Ozzy Osbourne has now confirmed that the band will go back into the studio in 2015 to work on its follow up.

Speaking to Metal Hammer, Osbourne explained that the ease of their last album sessions and subsequent tour have prompted the band to return to the studio.

“The whole Sabbath experience this time around was great,” said Osbourne. “We all made friends, we didn’t fuck around, we all knew that we had a job to do, and we did it. It was a lot of fun. So we’re going to do one more album, and a final tour. Once the dust settled after the last tour we started discussing the idea, because we were getting asked about it all the time.”

He continued: “I said to Sharon, ‘What’s going on? Because if there’s no more Sabbath I want to get on with my own thing again,’ and she came back and said, ‘Let me look into it.’ Three weeks later I asked her about it again, and she said, ‘Oh, I still have to talk to so and so…’ and I said, ‘Sharon, I ain’t fucking 21 any more, if we’re going to do it I want to do it before I’m 70!’ Time isn’t on our side! So she made the call and came back and said, ‘Yeah, the record company wants another album.'”

When prompted for details about the forthcoming release, Osbourne also disclosed that the group would likely be working with producer Rick Rubin, who also worked on ’13’. Speaking about the timeframe, meanwhile, the singer explained that the album would be recorded “sooner rather than later”. “Obviously a lot of it is coming down to Tony [Iommi, guitar]’s health, he’s obviously got his cancer treatment, but we’ll get onto it next year,” Osbourne elaborated. “I don’t know if we’ll be writing in England or LA, but I’ll fly to the fucking moon for it if I have to!”

Earlier this year, following the band’s headline set in Hyde Park, Iommi had previously stated that the gig could be the band’s last outing due to his ongoing health problems. “It could be the last ever Sabbath show,” the guitarist said. “I don’t want it to be, but there’s nothing really planned touring-wise after that show, so for all we know that could be it really. To be honest I don’t want to be touring to this extent too much longer, because it makes me feel so bad.”

Black Sabbath have released 13 studio albums since forming in 1968. The current line up of the band sees Iommi and Osbourne joined by third original member Geezer Butler on bass.
