Blink-182's Travis Barker defends plane crash lawsuit

'If something goes wrong you should be compensated' says drummer

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has defended the lawsuit he has instigated following the plane crash he was involved in recently.

Barker was injured in the crash in South Carolina in September, in which four people died. He has since sued the companies who owned the aircraft for $25,000 (£17,000).

"I wouldn't have been in the state I was in if I wasn't in the crash," he told Eonline.com. "I wouldn't have third degree burns all over my body or be prohibited to do certain things. I can't go swimming. I can't do some of the things that normal people can do.

"I didn't ask for that to happen. I just think positive. If something goes wrong that's not supposed to go wrong or you fall victim of it, I think you should be compensated.

"I lost two friends in the accident. Nothing can bring them back or what I lost in the accident."

Following the crash and Barker's recovery, his Blink-182 bandmate Mark Hoppus has hinted that the band may reform. They split in 2005.

Its not like the pilot decided to crash the plane?!He said it himself, "I lost two friends in the accident. Nothing can bring them back or what I lost in the accident." So the best thing to do is to make a quick £25k? The guy makes me sick.Complaining he cant go swimming? He does realise that some people cant even drink clean water without walking 10 miles a day. They didnt ask for that? What would he do in that situation? File a lawsuit against God?

What a complete tool. " I can't go swimming, I can't do certain things..." wah wah wah. Your friends were killed in the crash and you complain about not being able to go for a swim? Fuck off and count your blessings not the cheap dollars you could make, asshole. Another example of shameful "where there's a blame, there's a claim" behavior. It was a horrible accident which sometimes unfortunately happens. Be a man and get on with your life.

This is why Travis Barker is still a c*nt. So rather than being grateful in general, to his creator or any other deity he subscribes to, that he's not f-ing dead, this a**holes mantra, his philosophy is that life should always be perfect and if it isn't, and something unfortunate and unplanned yet inevitable happens to him, someone has to pay you for it? Well, he is American. This seems to be the POV of too many people here.

Jamesthemod, are you serious, im sure you would sue, and 25k is barely anything these days, especially considering a case in britain about a woman who got payed £400000 for contracting repetitive finger strain from too much typing. Oh but its ok, travis was only in a plane crash and suffered 3rd degree burns and lost 2 friends, he cant deserve money for that!(Note sarcasm)Moz_1983 are you a F*ing tool? He was in a plane crash for fucks sake not a ladder fall. Moz_1983 - "Your friends were killed in the crash and you complain about not being able to go for a swim?"Learn to read you idiot, he said he misses his friends.Im sorry for being a dick and all, im not even a blink 182 fan and barely no of any of his work, but i realise that sueing after a plane crash for only $25000 is a justifiable act.Pricks

Moz_1983 - What are you on about? I think its fair for him to claim for what happend. Im sure if a member of your family was involved in a car accident / or plain crash, which involved serious injury and expensive medical costs, you would want them to get compensation? Hows this any different? Yes he is a rock star and has money. But he is only claiming a very small amount instead of millions!! So greed isnt a factor. Plus im sure the airline he flew with no doubt have insurance and making a claim!! So it's not like they cant afford to cover his medical costs.....

I don't see anything wrong with his lawsuit. If there's merit, it will go forward. If there was negligence, he should be made whole. It matters if the pilot was following the standard of care used by pilots. If not, he's liable for damages. The medical insurance company probably has a lien on 100% of any recovery anyway-- they get paid first. The attitude that every lawsuit is frivolous hurts our judicial system. If there's no merit, it won't go to trial. If it does, then it's the jury's job to decide.

If you are involved in a plane accident you are liable for compensation. Regardless of how rich you are. Whats the point of negative comments about this. Accidents unfortunately happen? You pay top money to make sure they dont

People who are attacking the guy over this don't seem to understand the law. This is exactly the kind of thing tort law is there for. It is a perfectly reasonable claim and a very trivial sum of money he is seeking. It's clearly not all about the money. If someone was at fault for his injuries as seems likely then it is perfectly fair that he should be compensated.By the way whatever you think of Blink 182, Travis Barker has always been regarded as by far the most musically talented member of that band, he is a great drummer. Certainly in current popular music he is one of the best. Obviously there are better drummers in the Jazz and Metal genres but in his field he is brilliant.

Whoever called Travis talentless is wrong, he's an amazing drummer, just ask any of the drummers that you do actually respect and they'll tell you so. As for the lawsuit, it's shocking that he even thought about money after the whole thing. Seems to be the case with everybody these days. I'd surely have more important things on which to focus my thoughts if that were me in his position
