Mark Hoppus says that Blink-182 have begun writing their new record.

The bassist told NME, "Early next week I go back to Los Angeles to record an iTunes session for Blink-182, and we're starting to write the new record right now."

Hoppus added that, "We're going to tour Australia in February with Blink... [so the] proper tour and the new album probably won't happen for about a year."

Hoppus will be hoping to provide the antidote to a summer that he felt was missing out on "great new music". He said: "I've kind of been in a dead-zone lately... I feel like this summer was kind of devoid of a lot of great new music. The new [Brookyn indie dance duo] Matt & Kim album is coming out, I'm excited about that, the Mumford and Sons album I like... but, yeah, other than that it's been kind of a dry summer."

Hoppus claims that Mumford & Sons' first ever filmed interview was on his weekly TV show A Different Spin. "When they were just, like, a small, tiny little band, that people maybe kind of heard 'Little Lion Man' and that was it, we had them on the show," he says. Click here to watch the video.

Blink-182's new album will be a follow-up to comeback album 'Neighborhoods', which was released in September 2011. Drummer Travis Barker recently stated about the follow-up, "I feel like the best is yet to come, the next album is going to be exciting."
