Blink-182 to release new album ahead of Reading and Leeds Festival headline appearance

US pop-punk trio are working on follow up to their 2009 album 'Neighbourhoods'

Blink-182 to release new album ahead of Reading and Leeds Festival headline appearance
Blink-182 plan to have released their new album in time for headlining next year's Reading and Leeds Festivals.

The news that the US pop-punk trio are the first headline act confirmed for the 2014 event was announced last night. They are joined by Metronomy, Disclosure and Jake Bugg on the bill for the festival, which will take place in August.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 about the headline slot and plans for new music, Blink-182's Mark Hoppus said: "We are coming with new material. We go into the studio after the holidays, and the goal is to have an album out in time for the festival."

The punk-pop band released their most recent album and their sixth studio LP, 'Neighborhoods', in 2009. Speaking earlier this year, Hoppus said that the trio are hoping to head into the studio at the start of next year and have the record out not long after. "We haven't thought about any new songs yet," said Hoppus, but explained that the band will write the new album when they reconvene in the studio.

Blink-182's latest release was the 'Dogs Eating Dogs' EP in December 2012. The band split from their label Interscope in 2011.
