Kele Okereke: 'We wouldn't exist without Reading Festival'

The band say goodbye to second album with Main Stage set

Kele Okereke: 'We wouldn't exist without Reading Festival'
Bloc Party said a festival goodbye their second album playing the main stage at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival today (August 25).

As they told NME.COM early today, the group will head into the studio after playing the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival tomorrow, and were clearly up for having a bit of a party before the hard work began.

"The sun is shining, the beer is flowing," observed frontman Kele Okereke. "There's nothing to stop us having a good time right?"

The likes of 'Hunting For Witches' and 'Waiting For The 7.18' drew an enthusiastic response from the crowd while early favourites 'Banquet' and 'So Here We Are' inspired hearty singalongs from the busy crowd.

Okereke then explained that the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival was an important place in Bloc Party's history.

"This is the third time we played Reading and we've always been successful here so it's got a special place in our hearts," he explained, adding that without the event the band may never have formed.

"I met Russell our guitar player over there and we decided to be in a band," he explained before dedicating 'This Modern Love' to "anyone who's in a young band".

Bloc Party played:

'Song For Clay'
'Positive Tension'
'Hunting For Witches'
'Waiting For The 7.18'
'This Modern Love'
'The Prayer'
'So Here We Are'
'Like Eating Glass'
'She's Hearing Voices'
