Bloc Party defy doctor's orders to perform at Electric Proms

Bloc Party performed a dazzling set last night (October 27) at London's Roundhouse, despite the fact Kele Okereke had been ordered by a doctor to cancel the show.

The frontman is suffering from acute pharyngitis -
a painful throat inflammation - and had been told he must not sing at the hotly-anticipated Electric Proms gig.

But Okereke defied his doctor and soldiered on, tearing up his doctor’s note in front of the crowd.

"I should not be singing today, I have acute pharyngitis," he told the audience, while unfolding a piece of paper, "I have a doctor’s note... well, no thanks. I couldn't let you down." He then ripped the note in half.

The east London band - accompanied by London choir The Exmoor Singers - treated fans to a rare live airing of 'Kreuzberg' and played new single 'Flux' (released November 12) as their encore.

Okereke was so impressed by The Exmoor Singers’ majestic sound he claimed he's tempted to take them on the road with the band, saying “this was nowhere near as nerve-wracking as I thought...maybe we should go on tour with these guys!”

Bloc Party were supported by Maps, who drew such an enthusiastic reception from the crowd, frontman James Chapman cheekily quipped: "Anyone would think we were Klaxons!”
