Bloc Party: 'We might never make a record again'

Kele Okereke says he doesn't know what the band will do next

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has admitted that he doesn't know what the future holds for the band.

Speaking backstage at Australia's Splendour In The Grass 2009, Okereke confirmed that the band have no concrete plans on when their next album will be released, reports Triple J.

The band's third and last LP, 'Intimacy', was released in 2008.

"We don't know what the future holds," he said. "It's weird, we're out of contract now so... we might take a year off, we might take three years off.... we might never make a record again or we might head straight back in and do a record. We'll see how we feel come the end of this touring cycle."

Bloc Party are set to release new single 'One More Chance' on August 10.

bloc party are one of the most uninspiring bands to have survived the last few years. Silent Alarm: great album, the rest total waste of time.

Just last week someone asked me if I'd heard the last Bloc Party record. I replied "I certainly hope so"

I like some of bloc party's stuff and in some ways admire Kele's songwriting but the problem with bloc party is Kele's whiney student persona and perpetual stroppiness. If he goes away for a couple of years then it may offer him the opportunity to mature a bit........

I hope this stroy is true, one of the worst bands i've ever heard!!!

sad news. A great great band who outshine most other bands that have emerged this decade. Exquisitly talnted guitarist and programmer - Intimacy shimmers with great beauty.

what a deplorable band. they remind me of a talent show band we'd see in 7th grade. i hate to just start sparkin off at the mouth slagging off these young prats but come on! what kind of music is that? i've given their music a run through and i was nodding off from boredom. cobblers.

I really can't believe some of the loser comments above. Bloc Party are making better music than half the shiz that you'll find on the likes of NME etc... And anyone who was at their iTunes festival appearance at the Roundhouse the other day will tell you how good they were live. I dream of the day we find another band like Bloc Party.

Out of interest, what kind of bands do the anti-bloc partyers like?

Jul 30, 2009

I liked the first album but everything they've done since then has been nothing short of toss. Time to go i think.

Bloc Party are probably one of the best bands ever, so it would be a shame if they did stop making music. But as for the people above who think it's the "best new in the world" right now, you are probably just the common Oasis lovers who are too boring to explore anyother kind of music than the sound of Liam Gallaghers drowning voice.

obviously everyones entitled to their own opinion, and has their own preferences, but as a bloc party fan, im pretty gutted. Bands come and go, but will be a shame to all the bloc party devotees out there if they don't return. Good job ive got tickets for their october tour then

emilym118 - Leave Oasis alone! A lot of Oasis fans that are on this site will like me have been into them since 1994! So we aren't boring! What do Bloc Party fans have against Oasis?!I don't like Bloc Party but I would be gutted as well if one of my favourite bands were maybe never going to make music again so love to you all!

BLOC PARTY ROCK!

Aug 3, 2009

It's depressing to see such poor taste in music on an NME message board. People who think Bloc Party are "depolarable" or "one of the worst bands I've heard" or "they suck" clearly haven't witnessedthe range of music this band has created over their three albums. I dare say they just come on here in attempt to piss people off. Even when Bloc Party are dull (and they are at times) they are still terying something new.You lot need new ears.

Bloc party rock! Why are you all hating? If you don't like them that's your opinion but there's no reason to be so harsh about it. Also, stop with the Oasis v Bloc party nonsense it's ridiculous and futile. Good day!

Who are the insipid mainstream idiots who think Bloc Party are shite? Would like to know who they like given the deplorable, talentless shite that is in abundance at the moment?? Think the albums may not be spectacles as entities but man, some of the songs they did in Silent Alarm era are AWESOME. Two More Years and Tulips points in fact.

'Out of interest, what kind of bands do the anti-bloc partyers like?' Hmmmmmmm, Non-stupifyingly shit music? Please god make this true, i'll eat my greens and everything if you do!

Bloc Party's lyrics are interesting but the music is not that good, especially on albums 2 and 3. I'm with you Kele: it's high time for a re-think.

If you hate bloc party so much why even bother writing anything! There the most under-rated band in the country everyone knows that! WOW oasis now theres an over-rated band boring, shit, pointless music! There the most predictable band around! BTW why does everyone put down there 2nd album its fucking amazing Its just as good as there 1st maybe better! Sunday, Hunting For Witches, Waiting For The 7:18, I Still Remember There unbelievable songs :P Fair enough there 3rd album I'snt as good but Its still up there the lyrics are amazing! Ion Square, Signs, Biko & Zephyrus There good songs that mean something! People must be scared of change! BP all the way! :D
