Debbie Harry discusses first solo album in 14 years
She also gears up for film role, Blondie album may be on the way
Deborah Harry's first solo album in 14 years, 'Necessary Evil', features 17 tracks that mix rock, pop and dance-floor grooves, produced by Brooklyn production team Super Buddha (Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters).
NME.COM caught up with the legendary Blondie frontwoman on the eve of the October 9 US release of her first solo album since 1993's 'Debravation'.
"I enjoyed working with Super Buddha very much -- they're competent, multitalented and they aren't about strictly doing things their way," Harry said of her producers.
Harry explained that she began formulating ideas for new material during breaks from her busy Blondie schedule about a year and a half ago.
"I started working on ideas and coming up with a bunch of songs in my spare time when I wasn't touring with Blondie," Harry said. "I just had one of those crazy moments when making a record seemed like a good idea.
"I ended up writing a bunch of songs about relationships and love in all different degrees of seriousness," she added. "The songwriting process is actually easier for me after doing so many albums."
Harry said that she's planning a solo tour of the US in support of the album this autumn, which will most likely kick off in November.
She is also gearing up for the release of the film 'Elegy', based on a Philip Roth novel, in which she plays the wife of a character portrayed by actor Dennis Hopper.
As for Blondie, Harry said, "We're still playing live and we'd all like to record in the future."
